Dimensions
Calculating the dimensions for the Big Guns model is easy. it is based on a 1:144 scale. To calculate this you simply take the historical dimensions of your ship and divide by 12. For example, the King George V Battleship has a length of 745'. Just take that figure and divide by 12 which will give you the dimensions for the Big Guns model at 5'2" in length. Width is done the same way. The historical King George V was 103' in width. Take that figure and divde by 12 to get 8.6" for the Big Guns model.

Displacement
Displacement of the historical ship will determine the maximum pumping power you are allowed to use.

Using the Historical data for the King George V, she had a standard displacement of 38,031 tons. This would place the ship in a third category, and give the Big Gun Model the pumping power of 75 gallons per hour. This is important because when your boat gets gets battle damage you want to pump as much water out faster than it gets in.

Armor
Everyone wants plenty of armor. The historical armor thickness determines what thickness of balsa wood is used to cover the ship. The thicker the Balsa the better chance you have to deflect enemy fire. Using the King George V as an example, she had 15" armor (use the thickest armor your ship carried for this measurement). Following the chart below you can see that the Big Guns model would allow the KGV to use 1/8" thick Balsa.

Speed
Simply put, how fast you boat will go. With Big Guns it is more a factor of how long it will take the ship to travel 100 ft. on a straight course at full throttle. Using the chart below you will notice that the King George V must travel the course in NO LESS than 40.2 seconds. This is because the historical speed of the King George V is 28 Kts.

Armament
GUNS..., BIG GUNS... This is what seperates the men from the boys. Firepower, the ability to sent steel projectiles at your designated enemy in the hope of causing serious damage..., but just for fun. As always, the number and size of your guns are determined by the historical data for your ship.

Using yet again the King George V, you will notice that her main guns were 10 Mark VII, 45- calibre, 14 inch guns in two Mark II quadruple turrents (one forward and one aft) and one Mark II Superfiring twin turrent set over the forward quadruple turrent. Basically the main guns numbered 10 with 4 guns located in two turrents (one forward and one aft) and the remaining 2 guns are located in a seperate turrent just above the forward quad turrent. These were 14" guns so going by the chart directly below they would fire steel balls 7/32" in caliber. Using the chart below you see that in battle these guns would fire 1 round (from each gun) every 6 seconds.

Hold on we aren't fininsed yet. We also have 16 secondary guns which on the historical KGV were Mark I, 5.25 inch, 50 calibre guns. Each side had 8 guns located mid ship. Using the same chart you can see that this would convert to 16, 0.177 caliber steel balls that would fire once every 4 seconds per gun. Eight of these would be located on each side of the ship in the toward the middle.
